Depression

The lifetime risk for depression in women is more than double the lifetime risk for men. Why is there such a significant disparity in depression rates experienced by women versus men? Studies indicate the dissimilarity can be attributed to the monthly fluctuation of hormones during a female’s younger years, as well as the hormonal transitions that take place after childbirth and as menopause approaches.

Episodes of depression and low mood can be triggered by the natural decline in the body’s hormone production, menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause. This decline can negatively affect brain chemistry and have a significant impact on mood and well-being. Women who experience depression may find relief of symptoms via hormone replacement, whether symptoms are a consequence of menopause or other factors. BHRT is a promising alternative to traditional antidepressants and anxiety medications, especially if the root cause is, in fact, a hormone deficiency.

If you are dealing with symptoms of depression, it could be due to a hormone imbalance. Take our hormone quiz to determine if you are a potential candidate for hormone optimization.
